WORK STARTS ON £490,000 REVAMP OF PERTH PUB

Work is set to start* on a major £490,000 refurbishment of The Welcome Inn on Rannoch Road in Letham to transform it into a great quality, family-friendly local serving good, affordable food. The investment is being undertaken by Heineken-owned Star Pubs & Bars and will see Perth resident and experienced licensee and chef Debbie Little take the pub’s helm.

The redevelopment is expected to take 14 weeks, with The Welcome Inn scheduled to reopen in the second half of November. Seven new jobs will be created.

Outside work will completely change The Welcome Inn’s appearance, significantly enhancing the neighbourhood. The project will extend the front of the pub, paint the building and add new signage and lighting. A sheltered café-style terrace will be created to the side with seating for more than 50 and attractive planting to complete the new look.

The Welcome Inn’s dated interior will receive a complete makeover to upgrade it throughout and make it both comfortable and contemporary. The project will extend the bar, install a kitchen to enable food to be introduced and create a dining area. With no coffee shop nearby, Debbie is putting in a barista-quality coffee machine and will serve hot drinks and an all-day menu of traditional pub favourites, such as pies, steaks, burgers and curries. The drinks selection will be increased and feature premium spirits, cocktails, wines and craft ales, whilst a cellar overhaul and state-of-the-art dispense equipment will ensure consistently excellent beer and cider.

Debbie wants The Welcome Inn to be a focal point of Letham life and will host a myriad of activities from quizzes to live music. Sports enthusiasts will be well catered for too with the addition of Sky and BT Sports, high-definition screens and a high performance sound system. Debbie also plans to sponsor local sports teams and hold fundraisers to support good causes that benefit Letham and its residents.

Debbie, who grew up in Perth, has managed pubs throughout Scotland for twenty years and currently runs The Tavern on South Street in the city centre. Says Debbie: “I’ve always wanted a pub of my own and I’m excited The Welcome Inn will be my first – it’s got so much potential. With no other pub within a mile and half, Letham has been crying out for a great local that’s a hub of the community. My aim is to fill that gap. The plans are fantastic and will provide the kind of quality people have had to go into Perth to find on their doorsteps. The Welcome Inn will be like a new pub when it reopens and cater for everyone and all occasions – whether it’s morning coffee, a family lunch or a brilliant night out.”

Comments Star Pub & Bars operations director for Scotland, Brian Davidson: “Debbie has a terrific track record and we’re delighted to be joining forces with her to broaden The Welcome Inn’s appeal and give it a new direction and lease of life. We’re refurbishing everything, and no part of the pub will remain untouched.

“We’re investing over £4 million this year in pubs across Scotland like The Welcome Inn to help them keep pace with peoples’ changing needs and expectations so that they can thrive for the long term.”

Star Pubs & Bars acquired The Welcome Inn in March 2018.
